This paper reports work-in-progress, investigating user-driven adaptation of a large complex EHR system in two Danish regions. It focuses on the experiences of so- called ‘physician builders,’ tasked with adapting the system, and identifies five issues and challenges that are of particular concern to the builders. Finally, it discusses how working as a builder can be seen as ‘voluntary work’.en
