Abstract

The massive, rapid, and pervasive spread of mis- and disinformation on social media has been hailed by many as a threat to democratic processes and human rights across the globe. Young people are particularly vulnerable to this threat due in part to their proportionally high consumption of news through social media platforms. My dissertation aims to better understand how young people engage with flags to misinformation from sources such as social cues and automated tools in order to offer insights into how to build better credibility assessment tools.
